The Looper’s Most $$$ player of the week:
Colt Brennan, Hawaii QB (Stat line: 40-53 passing, 5 TDs, 2 INTs)
Brennan brought himself back into the Heisman picture with an incredible performance during Saturday’s 39-27 win against then-No. 17 Boise State. Last week was chock full of possible Most $$$ candidates but Brennan’s body of work might well have been the most impressive performance in a big-game situation all weekend.
A perennial thorn in the side of the BCS, Boise State, has performed at such a level over the last several years they are a team worthy of constant top-10 consideration. And what did the record-breaking Hawaii passer do? He was nothing short of incredible, shredding the BSU defense for almost 500 yards and five touchdowns.
In doing so, Brennan also broke Ty Detmer’s career passing touchdown mark of 121 (Brennan now has 126). The record became his 25th NCAA record. Damn.
His high caliber Winchester of a right arm is the reason that the Warriors are the only undefeated team left in Division I Bowl Subdivision (dumbest name ever, even if it is accurate), and he had to know full well coming into the season that any thing less than an undefeated season would not get Hawaii a BCS Bowl bid. No losses allowed? Talk about pressure.
In this week’s equation: Performance + Pressure = $$$
